Sometimes we all need a little Sookie

I will freely admit that I find myself far more often wearing an expression similar to Lorelai's than to Sookie's... Nevertheless nothing has dampened my stress levels better the last couple of days than the cheery, down to earth character of Sookie St. James. To those of you who are unaware, I am of course referring to the wonderful:

(Do you like my first attempt at some blog personalisation?)

Gilmore Girls is a feel-good TV series that follows the lives of Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory, in a relationship often more closely resembling Rory as the sensible mother figure and Lorelai as the wayward teen. It is a lovely series, great for when you have had enough of your responsibilities and want to splurge on that second cup of tea in your array of cosy blankets (especially as the weather starts to cool!). What I have been enjoying the most recently however are Sookie's flamboyant menu creations and her resilient, 'never too serious' attitude.

Because at the end of the day when your stress levels are elevated (as mine recently have been...) the best thing to assert to yourself is the fact that 'it's all going to be ok', and in watching Melissa McCarthy's portrayal of Sookie, that concept was driven home perfectly. Be it her homely kitchen, her welcoming smile, or perhaps her giggly girlish nature (in the way she still seems to have Lorelai as the significant other in her life even after getting engaged to Jackson), Sookie is the perfect on screen role model for self-care and stress obliteration!

What's more, I am still only on Season 2 of seven - so I still have all the fun to come!

I would highly recommend this series if you want to relax, take some time out, or simply enjoy a bit of light-hearted humour - though some kind of tea/pudding/respectable comfort consumption is mandatory.
